For my pre-assessment, I used the website Flipgrid to allow students to create, at most, a 5 minute video explaining what it was like to live through the Russian Revolution.
I gave students two prompts to choose from. The first one was: Students need to create a video describing what it was like to live through the Russian Revolution. Students will need to mention different people who had a major impact during this time period. There is a five minute limit on the response time but students do not need to use all of it in order to get their point across.
The second prompt was: As a class, we're trying to figure out how the Russian Revolution is still affecting the world today. If you watch the news today you can still see the effects in modern day events. Talk about how the Russian Revolution affected the past and is still affecting the future now. There are five minutes allowed for you to talk about these effects but you do not need to use the whole five minutes in order to get your point across.
